Cancer

At last some good news amidst all the bad news papers print every single day:

“A set of genes that can make cancer cells 1,000 times more sensitive to chemotherapy has been identified by scientists promising a new way of treating tumours with fewer side-effects.
Although chemotherapy can be highly effective, it is generally toxic to the rest of the body as well as to cancer cells, causing serious side-effects. These include nausea and vomiting, hair loss, liver and kidney problems and sometimes permanent damage to fast-growing cells, such as those in the reproductive system. This has led scientists to seek ways of refining drugs so that they home in on cancer cells, leaving healthy tissue intact, and of reducing the doses at which they can be effective.” Read more on The Independent.

Hello!

Hello people, long time no see....
SmileyCentral.com

Here's a photo of Sandra's b'day last week.

This Friday we must say bye to Mada for a month (envy, envy!) and Sunday we must congratulate Paulo with karaoke (photos will be needed and a whole lot of drinking!)
Meanwhile it keeps raining, my parents are visiting here, so bad news. Their planned long walks are put aside for the moment. My Dad brought a very thick Tom Wolf book and sodukus puzzles, so he's busy. My Mum is watching telly and getting to know all the Spanish gossip. Bless!

Thievery Corporation -Lebanese Blonde

This might be one of my top ten ever... Perfect for this rainy weather, very sexy.

Bla bla

The weather is crap, and I'm not talking about it for lack of subject. It matters indeed to know how's it going to be in the next few days, as holidays are just round the corner. It has rained on and off and it will stay like this till wednesday, exactly the day I'll drive to Portugal, so the forecast better be good!

Bichinho is all dirty, the front window is already showing usage of the wipers. The gas price has raised, just in time for the holidays, when They know we will need it! I'm also waiting for my insurance to tell me it's all right for me to go and change the license plate for free (on the other guy's expense) so that Bichinho looks perfect again, the vain thing!

Went to the movies last week and loved the film: Blood Diamond. I'm not a Dicaprio fan, but the truth is that the boy is getting damn good! He's quite convincing, looks included. The story makes you shiver, as it's what happens in Africa everyday without our knowledge. The more conscious you get about it, the more interesting the film becomes. It's a portrayed reality which was long due. The photography director is a Portuguese acclaimed guy who studied Art History and Archeology at Sorbonne. Eduardo Serra is his name and you may have seen it in the credits of "Girl with a Pearl Earring". (And yes, my patriotic vein shows once again...if we don't praise ourselves, who will? Nobody knows us, la la la...)

Miss and Mr Espana, olé!

This past weekend we had the pleasure to zap through the election of the most beautiful people this year in this country. We followed devotedly the gala just to know who, out of the 50 girls was to be crowned! (I have no memories of ever watching a beauty pageant, but it doesn't matter...) The winner is this girl, who, when she said she had come with her sister and boyfriend, I almost fell sorry for her (the camera zoomed to this couple who, watching the camera, snogged as it zoomed). We were all left thinking: "What the f***!!! How can they kiss on national tv and show everyone their affair? Isn't this guy the contestant's boyfriend and the girl her sister? And they are snogging? Kissing in the mouth for the camera???"
Well, this moment of excitment was the peak of the gala...It seems that the boyfriend was the Other guy on the right side of the sis! Misunderstandings aside, this is this year's winner:

And I must refer that in Spain, being a Mr is something quite serious and that can take you almost to the stars!! The candidates go through a whole bunch of important pre-selections and their pictures are on the official webpage and they are subject to a few speculations by the media, such as their standardised (or not) looks. This year's winner was Mr Madrid,

but my personal favourite was this one. Mr Zaragoza.

(Damn, cannot have his body...in photo, to put it here!!!)

Go and have a look please at the contestants and you might go in for a few surprises!

Bad day for Bichinho

This morning, a sleepy and clumsy truck driver totally ignored my presence in my Bichinho behind him, patiently waiting for him to do what he had to do, and reversed into me.

My beeping didn't help, nor the people on the sidewalk enthusiastically shouting at the guy and gesturing coherently... I was pushed backwards about 5 meters against my will!!! This in the morning, when your alertness is still in bed.
Basically, my heart pounding, went out of the car expecting to see a severe damage on the front, but the Bichinho took it well and decided to revenge on the licence plate, right on the middle of it. At the end, after repeating it's a new Bichinho and that the poor thing didn't deserve it, the guy looked at me and asked me something in Spanish that I didn't get (ahrrgg!) and decided to take pity on me and gave me his phone number and licence. I hope he didn't gave me a false number just to get me out of his face...

Chic and cheap

Quickly checking the headlines on the papers, came across the Observer's article about Portugal's rural hotels, 20 estates across the country:

Spain has its haciendas, Portugal its quintas - country estates with bags of character. Some are hidden in the hills, some on the coast, some cheap, others very chic, but glorious scenery and a slower pace of life come as standard. In this preview from the new edition of his book, Alastair Sawday picks his favourites.

It goes on dividing the retreats into categories, like Rustic chic, Close to the coast, Bargain boltholes and Away From It All.
Read the article for great escapes on the country or buy the book Portugal, by Alistair Sawday.

(Teddy)Bear Knut

In Berlin's Zoo, there was a white and fluffy controversy: little baby polar bear Knut who was rejected by his mother. He was in danger of being executed, for apparently representing a problem if raised by humans in the zoo (in socializing later with his own species). He was the only surviving polar bear to be born in captivity in over 30 years... But animal rights and pleas from tons of people prevented the little thingy to be put down and he is now safe.

Check these photos on the slide and be delighted by this cutie.

Goran Bregovic ft Kayah - Nie ma, nie ma ciebie

One of my favourites from Goran with Kaya, a polish singer with a powerful voice. Enjoy. I love the instruments...

Ausência - Goran Bregovic (Cesária Évora)

Goran and Cesária...very nice and warm.

The new queen of Cabo Verdean morna

If you like mornas and Cesária Évora, then you'll like to read this article in The Independent, about Lura, a great new singer who's following the footsteps of Évora.

*My books*

I'm reading this book at the moment and I love it, it's by John Mortimer.

Also bought 2 books in Vips - Trade Wind by M M Kaye, another British writer and Omamory by Richard McGill.
Have no more shelves to put my books on, I guess there's two things I love - books and clothes and both their respective places of rest are totally full (this flat is too small).... Well, the influence comes from home, as Mum doesn't know where else she can stack more books and Dad keeps getting them shamelessly, hahahaha.
I'm also listening to a very cool internet radio station all this time at the pc, it's http://www.di.fm/ and you'll love it. I always choose either Lounge or Chill Out. Now they're playing the whole Supperclub Rome 6 album and it is really nice, especially the cool version of Summertime by Jurr and Roelove feat Wendy Lewis...
It offers all sorts of music genres, without commercials. Great company.

Weekend

The weekend was for bichinho get used to us.

We went for a nice ride on Sunday, to the countryside. We did a picnic in the woods, where the river water lapping and the birds singing were the only sounds detectable in the air. We almost fell asleep on that idyllic place. Bichinho liked it aswell.
We will certainly get back there, as it makes out as a great escape from the big polluted city at weekends, where the only refreshing option in the coming months will be our swimming-pool. I already have plans on what to buy to further enjoy it: need to get fluffy mattresses for the concrete floor (who, in their right mind, would make a swimming pool relaxing area out of concrete!?). Last year, what saved my back was my sheer joy of having my own pool (shared with my neighbours, of course) and the adrenalin somehow masked the pain my back was incurring on those long hot afternoons, when sunbathing till 9 pm wasn't an option, was a need...
This year, I'll become a proper neighbour and leave my possesions overnight by the pool, marking my territory. No young tenants will take my spot.
Ah, the joys of summer.
Spring is round the corner and today it seemed we were back at winter, wind gusts and drops of temperature opened this week. Not good for the humour, especially when Ali is out of the office and I'm his backup... Listening to his clients makes me shiver. Ok, they're from Oporto like us, but that accent makes me nervous! How can you speak like that, mr??? Get a grip or go to school!
Kisses

Zero 7 - In the Waiting Line

Very mellow song. Perfect for the end of the day...

Headline of the day

In El País, this headline made my sister obsessed with it, as it was so funny:

Un niño chino de cuatro años mata a 443 pollos a gritos

Apparentely a frightned little boy killed 443 chickens with his own screaming! Is this for real?

Poor Dad had to pay a lot of money of compensation to the annoyed owner of the silly animals...

I bet he is proud of his boy!

Me and my bichinho...

we went for a ride, to get to know each other. After all, it was our first date. I showed him my neighbourhood, my work, my favourite places to go... We spent two hours together and when we had to part our ways, I made sure I left him right where I could see him, in case of a sudden 'missing him' moment....

Ah, the joys of having your own first bichinho....

cafe del mar

Is it just me or aren't we all missing those long summer days and nights? Everytime I listen to any Café del Mar song I get so nostalgic of sand and sea and sun...
3 more months, right?...

International Day of the Working Woman

And why is it International Day of the Working Woman? Is a housewife included here? And a student?

Our boss decided to give the women in the office a red rose each. I keep thinking a little raise on our salaries would balance things better between us and men... In Spain, the majority of women still get paid 30% less than their male counterparts.

Promises

After all, my bichinho will only be mine on Tuesday!!!! Arrgghh, and what should I do over the weekend, now that I already had lots of places to go to??
Promises! Bah!

Bichinho

Just payed my car's insurance...(sniff)

By Friday I can pick the little thing up...right on time for the weekend.

I call it Bichinho, which is hard to translate to English but it's more or less little fluffy pet (hahaha)...well, more or less. It's also my own little abreviation of Mitsubichinho... Ok, I know, leave it Ana!
In any case, it's my new toy! And I can't wait to have it!

Any ideas where to take it (around Madrid)?...

Absolut

ABSOLUT vodka is one of the top selling brands, only second to Smirnoff in the vodka market. It has been around for more than 100 years and it's drinkers are drawn to it, not because of its distinctive flavour, but mainly because of its amazing marketing. Since 1979 it has been marketed as Absolut and its blue lettering on a simple bottle are recognisable almost everywhere. TBWA are the responsibles for its great success, by creating so far more than 1200 ads for the drink. Absolut Purity became Absolut Perfection and then a bottle with wings became Absolut Heaven and so on...

Here you can find the compilation of all the ads so far.

Apparentely in the US these "bottle focused ads" are not available anymore and boring ads are taking over. Fortunately in Europe the motto 'don't change a winning horse' is still known and we can still enjoy some amazing ads.

In the meantime, you can see the latest bottle to come out in the market, in chrome (apparentely to appeal to a male audience): Absolut 100.

Goldfrapp - Utopia

Very classy song. Retro chic, as it should.
Just thought of sharing, you know I love you guys! You're getting educated on my taste.

The Gift - Music

One of the best examples of The Gift, our portuguese very own great band! Enjoy.

Barcelonaaaaa!

Hello,

well, it seems that it's not only me who spends little time lately devoted to their blogs and totally abandon their purpose of relating thoughts and events to the blogosphere...

I have a few excuses, as I always try to demonstrate, therefore I'm going to use one more again and that is plenty of work. Have I use this one already? Well, I guess I did and it only shows I'm a very busy girl.

But enough of excuses and let's go to what matters: my trip to Barcelona. The weather was sunny and warm. Got straight from the airport to the Fair and started acting like a saleswoman: smiling at passersby, offering candies, asking if curious people needed help explaining our different papers and their uses, etc etc... It was ok. The best thing there was this:

This was a Formula One simulator that our competitors from Portugal (who's cool?) brought to captivate attention, and oh boy, did they get it! Everyone was queueing to get a race out of that cool thing. The guys, after I introduced myself as one of their suppliers (on other area) didn't want me to leave without trying it, which I did the next day, as I was already wearing less formal clothes (my first day dress would make it impossible for me to even get into that little cabin, to start with).

Everyone was really nice there, as we were all on the same boat - having to stay there and try to sell. On Sunday, me and a colleague went for a look around and brought plenty of beautiful posters to plaster a whole house...They were giving them away and many were done with our paper, so we had a point. The printers from where they were coming out were so big, they occupied a different pavillion altogether.

Enough of Fair and work. On Saturday night met my friend and other Portuguese people and went out for dinner where some of the guys tried kanguroo meat, for the disgust of some on the table.

On Sunday met again, this time on a more conventional restaurant, but it was almost touch and go, as they had already tickets for a film starting in around 50 mins, so you can imagine how quick was eating dinner.

On Monday, my first holiday day, went all over Barcelona, it brought back nice memories from the last time I stayed for 2 months. Barcelona is indeed unique and it's a continuous delight. But I guess all that airconditioned at the Fair gave me a bug and felt a bit sick, so didn't go out at night and tried to stay awake in bed watching the Oscars. Obviously I didn't remain awake for long... Next day was more or less the same walk around town and back to the airport, where the delays on the flights to and fro Barcelona are everyday's bread. Arrived around 10 pm at Madrid, right on time to watch Dr House.

It was cool! Barcelona rocks!

Tiny miracle baby

Amilia, the world's smallest premature baby has survived and is now ready to go home. She was born the length of a pen and doctors didn't expected her to survive. No baby born before 23 weeks has survived and Amilia was born at 21. She only weighed 280g.

Technology is now creating new standards!

Madness or publicity stunt?

Britney has gone bald. Maybe madness or a cry for help?

Judge for yourselves...In any case, bald men are thanking her putting shaven heads back into fashion (hihihihi)

The dolphin with a broken heart

Times Online has this news which stroke me a lot. Read:

When the young dolphin was rescued from the Adriatic Sea, distressed and bruised, she was nurtured back to health by a dedicated trainer who took responsibility for her care.
Now the trainer is dead, the victim of a frenzied attack by her neighbour — and the dolphin, apparently, is dying of a broken heart.
The extraordinary story of love emerged yesterday as keepers at the Oltremare water park in Riccione appealed for international help to save the life of their dolphin.

The dolphin's name is Mary G. and since her trainer's is dead, is refusing to eat. This can only restate the fact that animals do have feelings and emotions, maybe in primary states, but they do feel sadness or anger.

Los animales de dos en dos

This is everyone's favourite ad recently.
There´s the English version, longer, but the translation into Spanish is nicer...
Everyone is sorry for the litte piggy left behind.

This is 'Johnny, I hardly knew ya' music version transformed into a nursery rhyme that goes more or less like this:

The animals went in two by two, hurrah! hurrah!

The animals went in two by two, hurrah! hurrah!

The animals went in two by two, the elephant and the kangaroo

And they all went into the ark, for to get out of the rain.

Girl you know it's.......true

Do you remember Milli Vanilli?

Yes?
They're back!
No, not singing (sorry, miming) but their story of fraud and embarracement.

Milli Vanilli, like so much of life in the 21st century, were all about the packaging - two long-haired, buff-chested guys who looked great on stage and on album covers and effectively acted as a front for a musical operation organised almost entirely without them. Fabrice Morvan and Rob Pilatus, the two hunks in question, were the creation of a record producer called Frank Farian, who first hired them in Europe and then brought them to the United States as their careers started taking off.

The lives of Morvan and Pilatus did not go smoothly after they were exposed. Pilatus became addicted to drugs and carried out a series of robberies, earning himself a three-month prison sentence at one stage. He died of a drug overdose in 1998, just as the pair were getting ready to release a comeback album featuring their real voices for once.
Morvan, meanwhile, has persisted on and off with his musical career. Despite taking numerous voice lessons, however, he has never proved to be a winner, commercially or critically. He has had to work as a Los Angeles radio disc jockey and as a participant in a Fox television reality show called Celebrity Boot Camp.

They were simply pawns of an unscrupulous music industry... The film will apparentely be based on their version of the infamous events.

Medina Mayrit

Medina Mayrit was the name Madrid had between the 8th and 12th centuries. Muslims, Jews and Christians all shared this city.

This is also the name of a relaxing place we found out while killing time to go to the movies and see Little Children, which we loved.

This place is in the same building as this very appealing arab restaurant which was the one captivating our eyes. Paradise has a discreet entrance. We have to ring the bell to be allowed in and once inside you can tell you are going to love it. It has this air of secretism behind those doors. We got the panflet and promise to come back for a bath + massage. Oh yes!

Children

Our children are being neglected. That's the conclusion of a study by Unicef done in all industrialised nations. The authors say they used the most up-to-date information to assess "whether children feel loved, cherished, special and supported, within the family and community, and whether the family and community are being supported in this task by public policy and resources".

Valentine's

Is Valentine’s Day more about marketing or romance?

Nowadays, more of the first, I’m afraid. In fact, this day was created for the business. Since there was a shopping gap between Xmas and Easter, it was needed to fill it in with something. And who can say no to LOVE?

Roses double fold their prices in these days; chocolates’ firms release special bonbon editions; massages are now the new trend (the couple is massaged simultaneously, in a very relaxed atmosphere – I almost had that experience, in China, with my friend Pedro. I say almost, because it wasn’t very relaxing, as the massage types we chose were a bit on the harsh side. The first half hour was a Japanese shiatsu kind of torture, as although we were fully dressed, the knots of the masseuse’s fingers still went through our skins, tendons and muscles leaving us in pain, for 28 mins out of 30. The second part of this experience comprised of extra hot stones right on our already pained backs. If it wasn’t for the masseuses’ audible burning pain in their hands, it could be semi relaxing. But the girls were picking up the extra hot black stones with their bare hands and they couldn’t hide their discomfort… And we felt we were being burnt all throughout. So much for the relaxation the brochure promised. We went out of there in a mix of relief and pain. That was my couple massage experience. Maybe not to repeat.)

In any case, Valentines is everyday, right?

PS – my horoscope promised I was going to receive good news today at work… I’m waiting!

Jamiroquai - Runaway

Can you dig it? Something in the air tonight....lalala

Beatrix Potter

Just came back from the movies. This time everything went as normal, just noticed that 3 lonely guys were watching this film all by themselves...

The film wasn't an action packed movie, it was Miss Potter. Quite sweet.

For the ones who don't know who Miss Potter is, look at the pic below, as it might give you a hint. Just a fact: she was the most selling author of children books.

THE TALE OF
PETER RABBIT
BY
BEATRIX POTTER

ONCE upon a time there were four little Rabbits, and their names were Flopsy, Mopsy, Cotton-tail, and Peter.
They lived with their Mother in a sand-bank, underneath the root of a very big fir-tree.
'Now, my dears,' said old Mrs. Rabbit one morning, 'you may go into the fields or down the lane, but don't go into Mr. McGregor's garden: your Father had an accident there; he was put in a pie by Mrs. McGregor.'
'Now run along, and don't get into mischief. I am going out.'
Then old Mrs. Rabbit took a basket and her umbrella, and went through the wood to the baker's. She bought a loaf of brown bread and five currant buns.
Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cotton-tail, who were good little bunnies, went down the lane to gather blackberries:
But Peter, who was very naughty, ran straight to Mr. McGregor's garden, and squeezed under the gate!First he ate some lettuces and some French beans; and then he ate some radishes;
And then, feeling rather sick, he went to look for some parsley.
But round the end of a cucumber frame, whom should he meet but Mr. McGregor!Mr. McGregor was on his hands and knees planting out young cabbages, but he jumped up and ran after Peter, waving a rake and calling out, 'Stop thief!'
Peter was most dreadfully frightened; he rushed all over the garden, for he had forgotten the way back to the gate.
He lost one of his shoes among the cabbages, and the other shoe amongst the potatoes.
After losing them, he ran on four legs and went faster, so that I think he might have got away altogether if he had not unfortunately run into a gooseberry net, and got caught by the large buttons on his jacket. It was a blue jacket with brass buttons, quite new.
Peter gave himself up for lost, and shed big tears; but his sobs were overheard by some friendly sparrows, who flew to him in great excitement, and implored him to exert himself.
Mr. McGregor came up with a sieve, which he intended to pop upon the top of Peter; but Peter wriggled out just in time, leaving his jacket behind him. And rushed into the tool-shed, and jumped into a can. It would have been a beautiful thing to hide in, if it had not so much water in it.
Mr. McGregor was quite sure that Peter was somewhere in the tool-shed, perhaps hidden underneath a flower-pot. He began to turn them over carefully, looking under each.
Presently Peter sneezed - 'Kertyschoo!' Mr. McGregor was after him in no time.
And tried to put a foot upon Peter, who jumped out of a window, upsetting three plants. The window was too small for Mr. McGregor, and he was tired of running after Peter. He went back to his work.
Peter sat down to rest; he was out of breath and trembling with fright, and he had not the least idea which way to go. Also he was very damp with sitting in that can.
After a time he began to wander about, going lippity - lippity - not very fast, and looking all around.
He found a door in a wall; but it was locked, and there was no room for a fat little rabbit to squeeze underneath. An old mouse was running in and out over the stone doorstep, carrying peas and beans to her family in the wood. Peter asked her the way to the gate, but she had such a large pea in her mouth that she could not answer. She only shook her head at him. Peter began to cry.
Then he tried to find his way straight across the garden, but he became more and more puzzled. Presently, he came to a pond where Mr. McGregor filled his water-cans. A white cat was staring at some gold-fish, she sat very, very still, but now and then the tip of her tail twitched as if it were alive. Peter thought it best to go away without speaking to her; he had heard about cats from his cousin, little Benjamin Bunny.
He went back towards the tool-shed, but suddenly, quite close to him, he heard the noise of a hoe - scr-r-ritch, scratch, scratch, scritch. Peter scuttered underneath the bushes. But presently, as nothing happened, he came out, and climbed upon a wheel-barrow and peeped over. The first thing he saw was Mr. McGregor hoeing onions. His back was turned towards Peter, and beyond him was the gate!
Peter got down very quietly off the wheel-barrow, and started running as fast as he could go, along a straight walk behind some black-currant bushes.
Mr. McGregor caught sight of him at the corner but Peter did not care. He slipped underneath the gate, and was safe at last in the wood outside the garden.
Mr. McGregor hung up the little jacket and the shoes for a scare-crow to frighten the blackbirds.
Peter never stopped running or looked behind him till he got home to the big fir-tree.
He was so tired that he flopped down upon the nice soft sand on the floor of the rabbit-hole, and shut his eyes. His mother was busy cooking; she wondered what he had done with his clothes. It was the second little jacket and pair of shoes that Peter had lost in a fortnight.
I am sorry to say that Peter was not very well during the evening.
His mother put him to bed, and made some camomile tea; and she gave a dose of it to Peter!
'One tablespoon to be taken at bed-time.'
But Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cotton-tail had bread and milk and blackberries, for supper.

Babies and earthquakes

Yesterday was a key day for Portugal: for the second time round people had the chance to get involved directly in politics and have a say in the remaking of a law. Last time in 1998, people weren’t so interested, and the referendum participation was below the 50% needed for a legal ratification.

This current government also wanted to change that law and again it asked the people to vote and decide. The referendum was about a very delicate question for us, Portuguese, as we are, together with Ireland and Poland the most conservative in this field. I’m talking about legalising abortion.
Our law, the way it is written, only allows interruption of pregnancy in case of rape, malformation or danger for the mother’s health by solely decision of the medical class, and not the mother herself.
If the mother-to-be decides she wants to end her pregnancy, she has to do the abortion in an illegal backroom, usually with unsanitary conditions and paying around 1000€… Risking being found out and going to prison, as it is a crime, according to our law. Punished with up to 3 years sentence.

The referendum yesterday was posing the question if we agreed to change the law, by allowing women to voluntarily end up her pregnancy in a legal clinic, up to the 10 weeks of gestation.
In a very Catholic country but with plenty of available contraception – for free – this topic is very difficult to reach a consensus between the ‘pro-life’ and the ‘pro-freedom of choice’.

The law will pass, abortion will be legalised.
Today’s earthquake (5.8 in the Ritcher’s scale) was, according to some, a divine punishment for those who voted for the legalisation.
Who knows? J

Bug Alert

Look what my computer revealed to me today, the poor thing... That's what happens when you leave it all by itself for some time.

It obviously isn't interested in anything but sweets and attention. It's only fair I treat it to a little snack... (Is it my PC or me ;) ? )

Kisses

PS- found it in Ana's blog and you can find some more of this stuff here.

Fundas and cinemas

Ok, Ikea out of the way...

This is my funda nórdica.

Also bought a bed cover.
And some sheets. And this is it in what bed clothes are concerned!

Yesterday went with my sister to the movies to see the opening of The pursuit of happyness.
We loved the film, especially as it's based on a true story. Watch the trailers on the link.
But we went through a cool experience on the movie theather. It started as the lights went off around 8.15 (movie was starting at 8.20) and for around 10 mins we were all in the dark with no pictures on the screen. There was obviously a problem with the projector, and people kept turning themselves on their seats to look up there to the little window. In the meantime, there were no lights and the theather totally full of mainly foreigners (it was a Original Version movie). At some point one of the many mobile phone lights pointed at the screen and its ownwer started to move his hands . The shadows were projected and everyone giggled a bit. He saw there a good chance to stand out and the next shadow was a butterfly. We all laughed a bit more. The light went off and the next Chinese shadow he came up to (he had been practicing in the dark) was a dog eating and barking. At that one which was really good, besides laughing he also got applause from all of us. The next one was a rabbit, but we only laughed, the dog was the best!

Lunch

Today we had a Lebanese lunch at work, as a colleague who is half Lebanese had his birthday turning 30 and offered us scrumptious food. Everybody in the office was eating pita bread and humus, and all the very nice things he brought. Recipes were exchanged as the majority loved the food. As for me, I was innundated with questions about my trip to Beirut and how much Lebanese food had I; which one was the favourite; what kind of meat is used, etc etc. It was a nice gesture and tomorrow he will be given a nice prezzie from all of us.
